Well, here we are upon another weekend. I didn’t write a column for this week. I had a test for school which consumed my free time and I have been running all over timbuktu with the kids. They finally finished their reassessments with the school district. Ella qualifies for services, Matty does not. Very frustrated. I can’t thank the folks enough for re-evaluating the kids and feel very fortunate Ella can receive services through the district. At the same time I am very frustrated MAtty does not. We take him each week up to Gillette in St. Paul and while the services are fantastic, I hate the drive and time it takes. I am glad I am getting him the help he needs but frustrated by the system. Ella does not qualify for services for her gross motor delays as they are viewing them as more of a “medical” issue. I have thoughts about that, which I won’t share here, but at least she is getting help from a fabulous gal for articulation and I am pleased with that. I am confident we have good people in our special ed dept here in Hastings. I am not confident in the system we have set up as a state. That said, we will keep on keeping on.
Another event for us… Matty hurt his foot at day care. First it looked like he fractured it, then like he didn’t, and now looks to be a fracture again. We tried to get fitted for a walking boot today and didn’t work out (sizing was a problem) and so tomorrow am we go to see about a cast. Not wanting him to have a cast for Halloween but we want him to get better. Hopefully he thinks twice before climbing on the monkey bars again!
As for my shape up challenge, it is actually going well. Have taken off a few pounds and am running again. My tibias which I fractured last summer are giving me some grief but I am hopeful that I will still be able to do the Gobble Gait.
Well, it seems my kids have shared their colds with me so I think I am going to retire to the couch.
